Night workers face more safety risks with drug war, martial law – BIEN

The BPO Industry Employees Network warned that night workers including BPO workers may face higher safety risks with the relentless spate of killings associated with President Duterte’s drug war, and with recent pronouncements by government officials about a nationwide imposition of martial law.

On Duterte’s second SONA, BPO workers say no to Martial Law

The BPO Industry Employees Network (BIEN) Philippines firmly opposed martial law and condemned the extension of Martial Law declaration until end of December 2017 as approved by Congress last July 22.

“What transpired in the joint session was a total sell out of democracy,” according to Mylene Cabalona, BIEN spokesperson, “when an overwhelming number of members of the Congress voted to extend Martial Law in Mindanao even as the reports provided by the security cluster of the President could not stand on its own to establish factual basis.”

Marcos is a dictator and plunderer, not a hero

On the event of the International Human Rights Day and amid public outrage after the sneaky burial of Ferdinand Marcos at Libingan ng mga Bayani, We, the BPO Industry Employees Network, joins the fervent opposition on the indecorous act to revert the historical judgement of the Filipino people against a dictator and plunderer.

We are baffled by the decision of the Supreme Court and repulsed by the blessing given by the executive branch on this unwelcome event.

We are disappointed that the issue on the Marcos burial was confined as a legal question failing to address its moral, historical and political questions. It was an outright insult not only to victims and survivors of Martial Law but also to the entire Filipino people who fought against the dictatorship.
